Christian EducationThe Christian Education Ministry uses a holistic approach to disciple each soul into a deeper and stronger relationship with Jesus Christ by evangelizing, ministering, and teaching God's Word and principles. It is committed to ensuring that opportunities for spiritual growth and continued education are made available to the membership. The ministry revolves around a commitment based upon the scripture, Matthew 28:19-20, wherein Christ commissioned His followers to teach all nations to observe all of the things He commanded. Components of this ministry are Sunday School, Doctrine Class, Inductive Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, and Small Group Bible Study. Upcoming enhancements are the Church Library and Bookstore. (Acts 2:41) Sunday SchoolOur Sunday School is organized and staffed with an adequate number of departments and classes. We strongly promote an emphasis on Bible study and application. Join us each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. Bible StudyThe noon day and evening bible study is designed to promote and enhance the prayer life of the church, and encourage serious study of the scriptures. We also discover what the Bible has to say about particular issues and reveal what it is saying to us today. Come study God's Word with us! Wednesdays at 12:00 noon and 6:30 p.m. Vacation Bible SchoolThis ministry is an extension of our Sunday School and meets for one week during the summer. It is designed to enhance spiritual awareness and Biblical knowledge for all ages. Youth MinistryThis particular ministry is designed to involve youth (children and young adults) in Christian growth and development and to involve youth into the total ministry of the church through discipline and extensive training. They currently have a newsletter entitled "Youth Expressions" that serves as an instrument to assist in the flow of communication regarding the various areas of our Youth Ministry: such as the Youth Choir, Youth Ushers, Youth Bible Study, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Tutoring Ministry. The Youth ministry of OBC is growing and with such growth come many varied activities and projects with the edification of youth in mind. We want you to know about what's going on and we want you to be in fervent prayer for our Youth Ministry. Children's MinistryThis ministry is designed to nurture children through Christian care and teaching. The ministry seeks to be creative and relevant to the needs of children. It focuses on ages 6 to 12. Young Adult MinistryThe mission of the Young Adult Ministry is to present a ministry pleasing unto God and totally dependant upon Him. It is the mission as Youth Leaders to use the mighty power of God, to aim the youth to the right target. Not with traditional values, but with Godly values. This will be done by giving youth Bible based teaching that is clear and easy to understand. All activities will be God-centered. It is also the mission of the Young Adult Ministry to enhance the overall attributes of the youth: spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Youth Bible StudyThe Lord inspired one of the Youth Coordinators, Bro. Michael Prater, with the idea of writing the Bible Study lessons that are used for the Youth Bible Study held on Wednesday evenings. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the design team (Mary Ann Davidson-Morton, Angia Armour, Kathy Prater, Darlene Black, Wesley Hilt, Eli Foster, and Pat Tumblin) completed the lessons of the first segment on the study of GOD IS LOVE - through CREATION, through REDEMPTION, and through ETERNITY. At the start of September 1999, they began on the second segment continuing with the concept of GOD IS LOVE - through PRAYER, through FAITH, and through THE HOLY SPIRIT. Boy Scout MinistryThe Boy Scouts Ministry is designed to provide leadership training, scouting skills and Christian education for boys. Girl Scout MinistryThe Girl Scouts Ministry is a movement that gives girls from all segments of American life a chance to develop their potential, to make friends, and to become a vital part of their community. Its sole focus is to meet the special needs of girls. The purpose of this ministry is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens. The Girl Scouts Ministry consists of several program levels including: Daisy - For 5 and 6-year-old girls in Kindergarten and 1st grade. College MinistryThis ministry is an affiliate of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In addition to the spiritual ministry, the College Ministry also assists students with groceries, supplies, and other areas as needed. Men's MinistryThis ministry is committed in restoring the hearts of men by witnessing, maintaining obedience to the study of God's Word, and equipping and empowering each man to reach his full potential in the will of God. Furthermore, it is the desire to the ministry to reach the issues and strongholds that bind the man of God and to free him to be a proactive, godly leader within his church, home, community, and his world. Women's MinistryThe Women's Ministry is committed to empowering women to live effective Godly lives and encouraging women to develop wholeness mentally, physically, and spiritually through a practical foundation of the Word of God and a daily walk with Christ. Singles' MinistryThe Singles Ministry seeks to elevate single adult Christians to a level of commitment in Christian living that is fruitful and functional through Christ and exalts Him as Savior through regular scheduled Bible Study, seminars, workshops, retreats, recreational activities, evangelism, and outreach. This ministry meets the needs of those who have never been married, those who are divorced or separated, single parents, widows, and widowers starting at age 18 and up. Marriage MinistryThe OBC Marriage Ministry is an affiliate of the Marriage Savers of Chattanooga. Its purpose is to enrich and encourage marriages, and to equip husbands and wives to have spiritual and godly lifestyles. The OBC Marriage Ministry prays to build, enhance, and maintain marriages based on biblical principles and precepts. This ministry also provides premarital counseling to couples. Single Parent's MinistryThe purpose of the Single Parents Ministry is to inform single parents of the powerful position that they have been placed in and encourage them to seek God in their lives in the rearing of their children and the commitment to a holy living. New Members' MinistryThe New Members ministry has several areas that are focused on in this ministry. It is first responsible for ministering salvation to first-time converts as well as praying for the restoration of returning converts. It also provides a brief preliminary instruction on OBC's ordinances and collects data from each new member. The second phase begins in the classroom as a threshold to the wonderful beginning at OBC. The orientation curriculum consists of seven courses that teach the basic beliefs and doctrines of the church, acquaint new members with the various ministries, and help to steer them into the most productive ministry or area of service. Academic Excellence MinistryThe Academic Excellence Ministry Ministry offers one-one-one and small group tutoring to students of all ages in all subjects. It offers computer-based assistance in many areas as well. Tutorial services are provided Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the normal school year. |
